Part of the Salzburg hub of resorts just an hour’s drive from the famous city of Mozart, Grossarl is a much loved family-friendly ski village popular with Austrian weekenders. The Grossarltal-Dorfgastein ski area is home to 73km of pistes – mostly blue and red groomers – but on the same pass you get access to Ski Amadé region, which lets you ski within a network of 28 resorts.
The skiing is excellent for intermediates, and there are a few steeper challenges for more advanced skiers too. The region also has a number of alpine huts serving traditional heart-warming dishes, as well as indulgent calorie bombs like homemade apple strudel or pancakes.
