Can’t choose between a skiing holiday or a winter city break? You don’t have to! In Igls, you can have the best of both. With a small but perfectly formed selection of pristine pistes overlooking the nearby cosmopolitan city of Innsbruck, you can ski in the morning and explore the city in the afternoon. No joke!
Uncrowded nursery slopes close to the village are perfect for newbies. While up-and-coming skiers will relish smooth-flowing blues and reds. Fancy stretching your ski legs? Grab a pass to the wider Innsbruck ski area and head to the Stubai glacier for some freeride flow.
Igls benefits from north-facing slopes and snowmaking facilities which can only mean one thing - good snow from December to April. Nice one! And if the slopes are a bit slushy in places, the family-friendly runs on nearby Stubai glacier get good helpings of powder all season.
Igls is a superb spot for a short skiing trip with quick and easy access from Innsbruck airport. Book a trip during the week for peaceful pistes, or tag a mini ski break onto the end of a business trip. Go on! You deserve some downtime.
Things to do in Igls
Despite its modest size, Igls played host to Winter Olympic events in 1964 and 1976 and still presents the Luge World Cup. Go for gold on the five-man bobsleigh, or dare to hurtle down head-first on a skeleton sledge. Cool Runnings are go! If all that sounds a bit too dicey, a snowshoe hike to the peak of mount Patscherkofel might be more appealing.
Feeling peckish? There are a few good restaurants in the village. Or why not head into Innsbruck city to discover hip coffee houses, traditional Tyrolean restaurants and overflowing market stalls. Foodie heaven!
