How To Plan A Group Ski Holiday

Planning your first group ski holiday? If you feel overwhelmed by where to start, don't panic! We're here to help. Check out these top tips from the team here at Heidi's HQ. If anyone knows how to organise a group trip, it's Heidi...

Nominate a Ski Group Leader

The first thing to do when booking a group ski holiday is to choose a group leader. We know. Yawn. But if they're a tiptop organiser, they'll be worth their weight in snow. Let them make decisions and coordinate payments to ensure booking deadlines are met. And before you travel, get them to gather and distribute everyone's contact and emergency information to the whole group. Then, if you ever become separated, you'll be able to get in touch with one another.

Agree on a Budget

No one wants to have awkward discussions about money, so agree on a budget that everyone's happy with from the outset. Some people in the group can flash the cash, no holds barred. But others will need to be a bit savvier with their cash. Make sure you agree on what the budget covers, too. Does it cover flights, transfers, and accommodation, but are kit hire, lift passes and lessons excluded? If you set clear expectations early on, it will make everything a lot easier.

Discuss Ski Abilities

Before deciding on a ski holiday resort for your group, get the lowdown on everyone's skill level and experience. Newbies will want easy access to nursery slopes, while seasoned daredevils may wish to explore off-piste terrain. Need to cater for a mix of skiing levels? Look for larger resorts that have lots of runs with varied difficulty. On the other hand, if everyone is of a similar level, pick a location with the best concentration of runs suited to the group’s ability.

Decide What's Most Important

Make sure you and your fellow skiers are all on the same page when it comes to the kind of group ski holiday you're booking. Is ski-in ski-out accommodation important? Or perhaps a swimming pool and hot tub is high on the priority list. And don't forget the apres ski; are you there to max out your ski pass and carve the mountain all day, or do you plan to live it large in bars and nightclubs? These are all super important factors that you need to establish before you can start looking for your dream group ski holiday.
