Welcome to Geilo Ski Resort

In the heart of Southern Norway, halfway between Oslo and Bergen is to be found the charming village of Geilo, surrounded by mountains and endless nature. It’s the base for five areas you can explore on skis. The resort is perfect for beginners and families – nothing too intimidating here – but experienced skiers may find the vertical drop of 300m a bit limiting.

Geilo is much more than a ski holiday however and there’s always plenty of other activities on offer, from skidoo driving to cross-country skiing. Convenience is key in Geilo, the free buses help you easily navigate your way round the resort, and the local Spar even offers grocery deliveries for when you just want to put your feet up.

Best time to ski in Geilo

Due to the high amount of snowfall, Geilo ski resort boasts a long ski season running from late November until early May. December through to February has the best snow conditions but be sure to wrap up warm.

Limited daylight hours are well publicised when it comes to Norway, however this is mainly confined to the North of the country. Further South In Geilo, you can expect very similar daylight hours to the UK and northern Europe. Geilo's floodlit skiing also lets you cram in as much skiing as your ski legs will allow, well into the evening.

March onwards offers up excellent snow conditions with longer days and very reliable snowfall.

Things to do in Geilo

Fancy putting the skis back in the locker and getting stuck into some non-skiing activities? Well Geilo has got you covered. You can try dog sledding, ice fishing, sleigh rides or even an unforgettable excursion to the spectacular fjords.

Geilo pulls out all the stops to keep the little ones grinning. Children aged 5-10 can experience what it's like to be in the ski patrol with 'KidsPatrol' on selected Wednesdays throughout the season. And if that doesn't tire them out, the informal kids ski race, Geilo High Five tour or the SuperDisko definitely will.
