Here is a mountain village almost unknown to British skiers. It’s situated deep in Switzerland’s Silvretta Alps where the borders of Italy, Austria and Switzerland all come within touching distance. If you like to get away from the crowds and hunker down in an idyllic (traffic-free) alpine village full of traditional charms, Ftan is your place. The ski area is the resort of Scuol-Motta Naluns, where there are a total of 70km of slopes from 1,250m to 2,783m, with the majority rated blue or red. It’s an ideal family or couples destination but if you’re looking for a lively nightlife, you could be disappointed – there are no bars or nightclubs here.
