A small and traditional resort within striking distance of Lausanne and Geneva (both by car and train) Leysin offers something for everyone.
There are 60km of pistes in the resort with another 40km in neighbouring Les Mosses, just a 10 minute ride by ski bus. Together they provide a sweet playground of mostly easy to intermediate slopes with incredible views overlooking the Rhone valley and lake Geneva.
On the Mosses-La Lécherette side, the slopes are wide and perfect for beginners and families. Freestyle enthusiasts are well catered for too, the resort being home to the only halfpipe in the Vaud Alps, but there are easier runs too.
NEW TRAIN TRANSFER OPTION - you can now transfer by train from the airport, for a more environmentally friendly (and often cheaper) option. Win win!
The ski season runs from the beginning of December through to mid April. With a healthy resort altitude ranging from 1,300m to 2,000m, and well positioned snow cannons on key pistes, Leysin is a safe bet whether you’re looking to come out for a few days or a week.
Since it’s popular with families, high season is normally in February. Visitors also peak around Christmas and New Year. But from March onwards Leysin provides some great opportunities for skiing in the sun, and sitting out on those terraces.
Things to do in Leysin
Leysin’s fresh mountain air has been luring visitors for years and it is well set-up for activities. Besides skiing, there are mountain walks you can do with snowshoes. Ski touring is also very popular. Thrill seekers will love the tobogganing park, which has one of the longest runs in Switzerland.
And if you can tear your gang away from the slopes, in town there’s also a swimming pool, climbing wall, skating rink and a good selection of restaurants serving classic mountain fare such as cheese fondue and raclette.
