Welcome to Samnaun Ski Resort

Samnaun is renowned for some of the best skiing in the Alps, sharing 240km of pistes with its more famous Austrian neighbour, Ischgl. It’s also got a hidden attraction up its sleeve – duty free shopping. Samnaun is also the highest resort of this corner of the Alps offering guaranteed snow from November to May and you can access the vast network of slopes between 1,800 and 2,800m. There’s something for everyone – wide sweeping groomed motorways for carving sweet turns to some of the best off-piste and freeride terrain in Europe. Add value for money, great restaurants and atmosphere and it’s up there with the best of them.

Best time to ski in Samnaun

Samnuan has one of the longest winter seasons in the Alps with around 160 days. The season kicks off at the end of November and runs all the way through to May. However, the main season runs from mid December to mid April. For a festive break book early to enjoy some of those Christmas and New Year celebrations. For the best snow aim for January or February. And for longer days, sunshine and long lunches on the terraces, book from March onwards. The great thing about Samnaun is that it really does offer some snow security so booking in April is a pretty safe bet too.

Things to do in Samnaun

Samnaun is known for its duty free shopping thanks to an ancient law. Back in the day it was too remote for tax collectors to bother policing and the exemption has stayed. It’s not a free-for-all though – some limits do apply so it’s worth checking beforehand! Apart from the shopping there’s also winter hiking, a snowpark, sledding, cross country skiing and ice skating. There’s also a spa in town with a large swimming pool, whirlpool and massage jet as well as sauna and steam rooms. Unlike it’s neighbour Ischgl, après is pretty chilled in Samnaun but there are a number of bars and restaurants to relax after a day on the slopes.
