Best time to ski in Winter Park
With an average of 889 centimetres of snow a year (and plenty of snowmaking facilities on hand should the heavens misbehave), Winter Park is as snowsure as they come. The lifts get going in November and stay open right through until May, giving you heaps of time to explore this vast winter playground. Just try and avoid the weekends if you don't like queuing - the locals from Denver will be in town. Winter Park comes alive with festive cheer during the holidays. Watch a spectacular Torchlight Parade on Christmas Eve. And the atmosphere at the New Year's Eve fireworks display is electric! Oooo, ahhh!
Things to do in Winter Park
The best spot for sunset is at the appropriately named Sunset Mountaintop Lodge. Watch the skies turn pink over snowy mountains with a cocktail in hand, and dance the night away to live music. You'll find the best apres-ski at the bottom of the mountain in Winter Park Town, a couple of miles from the slopes. Dine out in local restaurants and share stories of your day's adventures on the slopes. Need to keep the kids entertained? Race snow tubes, take a spin on the outdoor icerink, or explore Colorado's stunning backcountry on snowmobiles.
