Welcome to Filzmoos Ski Resort

Filzmoos is a classic picture-postcard Austrian village resort, nestled beneath the stunning rocky cliffs of the Dachstein massif. It’s small and doesn’t attract big crowds, yet it’s less than an hour from Salzburg airport, itself one of the most hassle-free places to land in the Alps.
On the mountain there are 20km of wide open slopes perfect for intermediates who like the mountain to themselves. Nearly all are easy blues and reds, but there is a 1km long black run for those looking for a challenge.
When you’re done skiing, relax in one of several huts for a cheesy Käsenocken or slice of Sachertorte washed down with an ice-cold beer - delish!

Best time to ski in Filzmoos

The ski season really kicks off in mid December and runs through to the middle of April, depending on snow conditions. Go early to take advantage of the festive spirit the Austrians do so well. (Salzburg’s traditional Christmas markets run until January 1st).
The best months for snow are usually January and February and because Filzmoos is not so well-known, you don’t have to worry about it getting rammed during peak holiday periods such as February half-term, although because of its proximity to the city, it does get a little busier at weekends.

Things to do in Filzmoos

It isn’t just about the skiing or snowboarding at Filzmoos. Thirty minutes down the road is the medieval rock castle Hohenwerfen, locations for both The Man in the High Castle and Where Eagles Dare, while the historic city of Salzburg is also home to more castles, cathedrals (and shopping).
On the mountain, Filzmoos is known for its extensive cross-country skiing tracks and is a great place to learn. There are also 16km of hiking paths, or you could sit back and enjoy a romantic horse-drawn sleigh ride through the woods. Après is a schnapps or glühwein in front of a fire or followed by a hearty Austrian meal - Prost!
