Zell am Ziller is an intermediate skier’s dream. With red runs galore (over 60%), there are heaps of fun pistes to shred here and across the wider Zillertal region in Austria.
Gnarly lines down Konigsleitenspitze will keep thrill-seekers on their toes. And if freestyle is your thing, the Gerlos snow park features pro lines and plays host to the Gloryfy Bastards freestyle competition. Mint!
And don’t worry if you have grommets or newbies in tow - there are ski schools for small and big kids alike. And if all that wasn’t enough, there’s lots to do off the slopes too!
If you’re a diehard powder hound, the second week of January is best for fresh dumps. That said, the snowmaking coverage is near to 100%. That’s a big tick from us.
As you’d expect, Christmas, New Year and Easter tend to be busier and pricier, but kids of all ages will love the lively atmosphere and extra après-ski activities. Want to bomb down the pistes and sip your Glühwein in peace? Aim for weeks outside of the school holidays.
Things to do in Zell am Ziller
Skied your socks off and dying for a cold bevvy? As the home of the Zillertal Bier brewery, you’re in the right place! The après scene here is a bit quieter than in other resorts, but the alpine huts ooze atmosphere.
Still got some energy to burn? Hurtle down the 7km toboggan run - big smiles all round. Or giddy up on a horse-drawn sleigh ride.
By now, you’ll certainly be needing to top up the energy reserves, and you won’t be short of choices for food. Devour a large plate of schnitzel and chips in one of many mountain restaurants, or head into town for everything from pizza to fine dining.
