Best time to ski in Lake Louise

The snow in Lake Louise is usually tip-top from November to the end of May, but for the best snow, late February to early March is an ace time to visit. Canada can get super cold in winter, so wrap up warm. But if sub-zero temperatures are a ski tip too far for you, clip in during March or April when things start to warm up. Bringing the kids? Families will love the local festivities in nearby Banff over the Christmas holidays. And the Banff SnowDays Festival in January is jam-packed with activities, including skijoring shows, family play zones, and snow sculpture trails.

Things to do in Lake Louise

The star of the show away from the slopes has to be Lake Louise itself. Frozen throughout the winter and surrounded by towering snowy peaks, it takes centre stage in every photo. Gliding across the vast frosty lagoon on ice skates is the kind of bucket-list moment you’ll never forget. And sightings of elk and bighorn sheep on a hike around the shoreline aren’t uncommon. Back in the village, the apres-ski is laid-back, and the foodie scene is on point. Enjoy afternoon tea at the majestic Fairmont Chateau or stop on the mountain at the Whitehorn Bistro to indulge in gourmet burgers and gooey fondue.
