Welcome to Les Houches Ski Resort

  • A quieter alternative to Chamonix
  • Popular with families and beginner skiers
  • Close to Geneva airport for short ski breaks
A snowball’s throw away from the iconic Chamonix ski resort, Les Houches France delivers the same big mountain skiing experience but with the volume turned down a notch.
Like its lively neighbour, Les Houches ski resort gives you access to the vast Chamonix Mont Blanc area with heaps of runs for all levels. Head to the sunny south-facing pistes of Brévent-Flégère for easy slopes and the best views of Mont Blanc. Or, for more of a thrill, advanced skiers and boarders will love the spectacular Grand Montets area.
Not got much annual leave left? Les Houches is one of the closest ski resorts to an airport in the French Alps – it’s just over an hour’s drive from Geneva – so it’s the ideal spot for a short weekend or mid-week ski break.
This pretty, pint-sized village oozes whimsical alpine charm, and the apres in Les Houches is relaxed. But if you do want to spice things up a bit, simply hop on the free shuttle bus to Cham and enjoy one of the liveliest party towns in the French Alps.

Best time to ski in Les Houches

The old-world charm of Les Houches makes it an enchanting place to visit in December, and the designer stores in neighbouring Chamonix are a Christmas shopping paradise. If you want to whisk the kids away over the half-term holidays, Les Houches is a great alternative to Chamonix that won’t break the bank. Or hold out until spring to make the most of the snowiest weeks and enjoy first tracks sunrise sessions - simply magic.

Snow conditions in Les Houches

The snow starts falling on the highest terrain as early as September, and by December, the whole area is good to go. Since Les Houches skiing isn’t as lofty as other parts of the valley, the most snow-sure times tend to be from January through to March, but there will always be pistes to ski in the wider valley until the end of April, sometimes even as late as May.

Things to do in Les Houches

Outdoor activities in Les Houches
Fancy trying something different? Book a Ski Joering trip to ski behind a horse – it has to be seen to be believed. Or, leave the skis in the chalet and hike Parc Marlet on snowshoes; home to iconic alpine wildlife, keep your eyes peeled for wild marmots, chamois, and ibex on the mountain.
Indoor activities in Les Houches
If the weather turns bad, head to the local climbing wall in Les Houches for bouldering and high ropes action, or indulge in some retail therapy in nearby Chamonix. When the sun’s got its hat on, catch some of the best views of the Chamonix Valley and Mont Blanc via the Mont Blanc Tramway.
Spa and Wellness activities in Les Houches
You can’t help but feel on top of the world when you soak in a steaming hot tub and bask in a Finnish sauna overlooking the Mont Blanc range at the deep Nature Spa in Les Houches – it’s a proper pinch-me moment. The treatments at O des Cimes are dreamy, too.
