Fancy skiing in France and Italy on the same day? Then you're in the right spot. Located on the border, Montgenevre France (aka Monty) is a charming alpine village with easy access to the vast Milky Way Circuit spanning the Italian resorts of Sestriere, San Sicario, and Sauze D'Oulx.
Beginners will feel right at home skiing in Montgenevre, with gentle nursery slopes and super-easy green pistes running from the peak of Les Gondrans right into the village. Long cruisey blues cascade down the sunny slopes of Le Chalvet. And for thrill-seekers in the group, Col de L'Alpet is a freeriding powder-fest.
This pocket-sized ski resort is ideal for families who want everything within easy reach. The nursery slopes are smack bang in the middle of Montgenevre ski resort, and most of the accommodation is located close to the main ski lifts with a good selection of French restaurants.

Best time to ski in Montgenevre

Book a Montgenevre ski holiday over Christmas to watch Père Noël ski into town in a dazzling torchlight procession. Or dial in your flow during March to enjoy long, warm days on the pistes. The slopes are relatively quiet all season but avoid peak times to make the most of uncrowded pistes and carve first tracks on pristine corduroy.

Snow conditions in Montgenevre

With a baseline altitude of 1800 metres, the Montgenevre skiing season is blessed with an excellent snow record from December to April, with the snowiest weeks in early March. Plus, if epic bluebird days are on your wishlist, this is the place to be as the valley enjoys 300 days of sunshine a year – just beware of getting a hefty goggle tan.

Things to do in Montgenevre

The oldest ski resort in the French Alps, Montgenevre has more than just skiing and boarding to offer.
Outdoor activities in Montgenevre
Make the most of the fresh mountain air with heaps of alternative snow sports. Trek across snowy plains on a snowshoeing tour, ride skidoos, or hurl yourself down the Monty Express Luge, a monorail sledge descending 1,400m - the longest in France, nonetheless.
Spa and wellness in Montgenevre
If all of that adrenaline has left you wanting a bit of relaxation, the Balneotherapy Durancia Spa is just what you need. Soak tired legs in heated indoor and outdoor pools overlooking stunning snowy peaks, and warm up in the sizzling hot jacuzzi and sauna.
Indoor activities in Montgenevre
On days when the weather isn’t playing ball, Montgenevre has a good selection of indoor activities. Entertain the kids with a film at the local cinema, or head to the indoor ice rink to put your skating skills to the test.

Restaurants in Montgenevre

Le Trio - If you have a penchant for a French pastry and coffee before your first run of the day, this cute little bistro has you covered. They also have a good wine selection, so stop for an evening tipple on your way home, too.
Le Transalpin - A sweet combo of French and Italian cuisine that will satisfy even fussy eaters. You can grab a takeaway if you fancy a night in, and the low prices are budget-friendly, too.
Le Terrasses - For a scenic slope side bite to eat, this place is well worth a visit. Just up from the Le Chalvet gondola lift, enjoy a generous plate of traditional French grub with spectacular mountain views.
Le Capitaine - One of our favourite Italian restaurants set at the heart of Montgenevre. The sourdough pizzas are unreal, and the choice of toppings is enormous.
Le Caesars - Feast on delicious homemade French Savoyard food in this family-run restaurant right at the bottom of the beginner slopes.

Nightlife & Apres in Montgenevre

The apres in Montgenevre is lowkey, but there are a couple of good pubs to quench your post-ski thirst.
Le Graal - A popular hub for apres fun amongst locals, seasonnaires, and tourists. Watch sports and listen to live music with English pub vibes.
Exit Pub - Famed for its bar games and lively themed evenings. If you’re looking to party into the night - this is the place for you.
