For the authentic French skiing experience, Valmeinier is one of our faves. This quaint village oozes traditional charm while the high altitude accommodation at Valmeinier 1800, is less about looks and more about hugely convenient ski-in/ski-out options. And the mountain views are out of this world.

With connections to neighbouring resort Valloire, you’ll have access to a variety of runs, keeping everyone in your tribe happy. Newbies can build confidence on the mellow green and blue runs. And those with more experience can put their skills to the test on some technical tree-lined reds. In truth, black runs are limited. But if there’s a big dump of fresh powder, some off-piste action is definitely on the menu.

Best time to ski in Valmeinier

Less busy than the bigger resorts, Valmeinier is a magical and relaxing place to be at Christmas. Joyeux Noel!

January and February are blessed with epic bluebird days. But if peachy powder is on your wishlist, fresh flurries of snow tend to be more frequent at the beginning of March. This is also a great time to top up the goggle tan and make the most of uncrowded slopes and lifts.

Things to do in Valmeinier

It’s not all about skiing here in Valmeinier. Venture into the snowy outback on a snowshoe hike. Mess around on snow tubes. Or take the reins on a husky sledging adventure - mush!

The après scene here is quieter than in other French resorts, but there are plenty of cosy bars and restaurants to relax in. Chat about the day’s adventures over a steaming pot of cheesy fondue. And with the Italian border just a snowflake away, the kids can indulge in as much pizza and ice cream as they like. And so can you obviously. Win win!
