Best time to ski in Val Thorens

Christmas and New Year ski holidays to Val Thorens are busy but also magical. Its après scene and firework displays are ‘banging’. January often gets the resort insider’s vote – it’s sandwiched between peak periods and also when Val Thorens snow conditions are great. However, it can get cold and windy.
If you’re a fan of quiet slopes, you’ll probably want to avoid February school holidays. And if lunches on sun terraces are more your style, then skiing in March and April could arguably be the best time to ski in Val Thorens which is often brilliant for late-season snow.

Snow conditions in Val Thorens

Val Thorens ski season lasts almost six months, from the end of November right through to May. December can be hit-and-miss anywhere in the French Alps but thanks to its high altitude, Val Thorens snow conditions are more reliable than most for an early-season fix.
January and February are when snow conditions peak. And while other resorts might struggle in March and April, snow conditions in Val Thorens typically hold out, offering some of the best late-season skiing.

Val Thorens outdoor activities are guaranteed to put big grins on happy faces. Speed demons can race down Europe’s longest sledding slope - the infamous ‘Turbojet’. Or slide (and scream!) down wavy tracks on a snow tube.
Val Thorens ski resort even has the highest zipline in Europe. The ‘Tyroline’ is 1,300m of pure adrenaline-fuelled flying, while ‘La Bee’ lets you zipline in tandem.

Head to Le Board for the ultimate Val Thorens spa experience. It’s huge wellness centre has multiple pools and saunas, as well as steam rooms, plunge pools and even a snow fountain. More than enough to recover those ski legs!
