There’s a lot to love about Livigno – reliable snow, cheap prices thanks to its tax free status and some great runs for both skiers and boarders.
Nestled at 1,800m on the other side of Switzerland’s Engadine valley, it’s a resort with traditional charms and slopes up to 3,000m. Well known for producing several Olympic athletes, it’s to host the freestyle events for the 2026 games. But don’t worry if you’re not gunning for gold, after a few days here, you’ll be shredding like a hero.
There are two separate ski areas at Livigno, boasting 115km of pistes with a generous mix of red and blue slopes for beginners and intermediates alike.
If you’re hunting for a bargain and prefer to avoid the crowds, then go for the first two weeks of December or later on in March and April.
Christmas, New Year and Easter will always be busy and pricier. But with eating out and shopping up to a third cheaper than comparable resorts, it’s one of the less expensive places to go if you want to experience the buzz and excitement of peak season.
Things to do in Livigno
Spending a day mixing it up with an alternate activity is a great way to increase the laughs and rest sore legs. For mixed ability groups it’s hard to find a better activity than hitting the snow on an e-fat bike. There are several touring options available. For the more adventurous there’s tandem paragliding flights over the mountains and dog-sledding.
Relax afterwards in the Aquagranda sauna and spa before heading out to one of over 100 bars and restaurants. At Tea del Vidal you can try its signature brandy-based Bombardino cocktail which was invented here, or go to Tagliede for homely pizzas and traditional vibes.
