Welcome to Mayrhofen Ski Resort

  • Loved by intermediates and advanced skiers/snowboarders
  • High altitude snowsure skiing
  • Lively slopeside apres and nightlife
  • Traditional charm
Mayrhofen Austria is one of the best-known winter resorts in the Ziller Valley. Offering a vast playground of perfectly groomed slopes for skiers and boarders, there’s plenty of fun to be had both on and off the slopes, and the resort itself is jam-packed full of old-world charm.
The Mayrhofen ski area is split between Ahorn and Penken. With wide, cruisy pistes, beginners and families flock to Ahorn, while Penken lures in thrill-seekers to take on the legendary Harakiri run – it’s the steepest piste in Austria, reaching a staggering 78% incline in places.
In total, there are 142km of pistes across Mayrhofen ski resort. And if that wasn’t already enough, a 30-minute bus ride takes you to the mighty Hintertux glacier at the top of the valley – with skiing up to 3,200m, the pistes are open all year round for snowsure skiing.

Best time to ski in Mayrhofen

Mayrhofen ski resort officially opens in mid-December and closes in April. For a magical time with the kids or a romantic break for two, a pre-Christmas Mayrhofen ski holiday won’t disappoint.
Want to party? The après scene really kicks off later in the season, and April sees the annual Snowbombing Festival come to town – world-renowned DJs and bands take over the mountains for six days of non-stop music and partying.

Snow conditions in Mayrhofen

On the whole, the snow in Mayrhofen is stellar all season. January and February are the most reliable months for fluffy white slopes, but the half-term holiday weeks can get busy. When the temperatures rise in March and April the snow can be a bit less predictable, but there’s always the option to ski on nearby Hintertux Glacier, offering high-altitude snowsure pistes 360 days a year.

A day at the Zillergrund Rock Day Spa will leave you feeling refreshed and revived, and several hotels in Mayrhofen have pool and spa facilities. Erlebnisbad Mayrhofen also has extensive sauna and steam therapies to help take the edge off those post-slope aches and pains.
