Welcome to Serre Chevalier Ski Resort

  • Old-world charm and a relaxed ambience
  • Better value than large French ski resorts
  • Good for foodies and non-skiers
Serre Chevalier France is a hidden gem of a ski resort. Made up of four villages at the southwestern end of the French Alps, pistes sprawl the majestic Ecrins National Park. Cobbled stone streets and traditional wooden chalets give it a whimsical charm, and the relaxed apres makes it superb for families and those who favour fine dining over boozy nights out.
The pistes in Serre Chevalier are beginner-friendly, with heaps of cruisy corduroy leading back to all the ski resorts. A total of 81 runs across 250km, mostly in the blue to red range, give intermediates ample terrain to explore on skis or boards
Serre Chevalier skiing is also known for its bright bluebird days – 300 days of sunshine a year, no less. But don’t worry, 80% of the pistes are above 2,000m, so there’s always plenty of the white stuff to shred.

Best time to ski in Serre Chevalier

Serre Chevalier ski resort opens mid-December and runs all the way through to mid-April. One of the area’s biggest draws is that Serre Chevalier is a bit more low key and under the radar than its more famous neighbours, meaning it’s great value and doesn’t get as crowded. If you’re looking for a magical winter wonderland experience, go on a Serre Chevalier ski holiday early season in January, but for spring skiing with glorious sunshine, aim for March onwards.

Snow conditions in Serre Chevalier

The snow is always pretty reliable in Serre Chevalier – most runs are high up above 2,000m and north-facing, meaning there’s less chance of a slush fest. If you’re dreaming of a white Christmas, most of the snow dumps in December, with lighter flurries in January and February, and a top-up just in time for Spring in early March. If it is a bit of a lean year, snow cannons cover 30% of the pistes, so you’ll still have plenty of slopes to cruise whatever the snow gods decide.
