Tucked away at the far end of Andorra's huge Grandvalira ski region, the small village of Canillo is a peaceful snowy haven in the Pyrenees. Being off the beaten track means it's excellent value too.
Hop on a speedy lift from the village to reach some superb beginner-friendly green runs. And go in search of fairies and goblins in the Mon(t) Magic Canillo wonderland - be warned, the kids will never want to leave!
Further up the mountain, wide blue and red runs meander down to neighbouring El Tarter, Soldeu, and Pas de la Casa. And off-piste devotees can find some peachy freeride zones at high altitudes.
With altitudes of up to 2465 metres, the snow coverage in Andorra's Grandvalira ski region is good all season. But for the very best chance of fresh dumps in the Pyrenees, book a trip in February or March.
Canillo is an ace place to escape the crowds, so if you want a more relaxing time during the school holidays, add it to your shortlist.
Things to do in Canillo
Canillo isn't all about skiing - there are plenty of fun activities off the pistes too.
A highlight has to be the zipline at Mont Magic Canillo - it's the longest in Europe and the fastest in the Pyrenees. Or if you'd rather keep your feet closer to the ground, whizz down the Màgic Gliss, a supersonic toboggan ride that’s open in the winter. Definitely one for the memory bank!
And if all that excitement has worn you out, there's a good selection of laid-back bars and restaurants back in the village centre to get you fuelled up for another day of fun in the mountains tomorrow.
