Set at the base of Mount Criou, Samoens is an old French village with mountain loads of alpine charm. From here, you can access the Grand Massif ski area, including runs down to Flaine, Morrilon, and Les Carroz - just grab a ski-lift shuttle bus from the peaceful, kiddie-safe and traffic-free centre and off you go!
Little rippers will have loads of fun at the Samoens 1600 bunny slopes. While the rest of the gang can venture beyond and cruise down tree-lined blues - don’t miss Les Cascades, a 14km long must-do run - and lively reds with spectacular vistas. For some adrenaline-fuelled off-piste action, check out the six freeride zones.
Les Grand Massif soars to over 2500m in altitude, so snow is always on the cards in the winter. Thanks to Mont Blanc’s lofty peaks, snow days are full-on, and with most of the slopes facing north, the white stuff stays put.
Want to treat the kids to a Christmas they’ll never forget? Samoens really turns on the Christmas magic in December. Market stalls line the streets, and Père Noël gets in on the action too.
In January, the Telemark World Cup comes to town. And if you want to avoid the crowds during half term, Samoens flies under the radar compared to larger resorts.

Need to give the ski legs a rest? The farmers market creates a real buzz in the village centre every Wednesday morning, and traditional French restaurants serve up delicious crêpes, fondue, and raclette day and night.
The kids will love a dog sledging adventure. Or why not try ski joering and get pulled along by a horse instead? For a bit of zen and to unwind from a big day on the slopes, retreat to one of the alpine spas. And relaaaaxxx.
