1. Chamonix - 1hr 15mins

The go-to weekend ski break for those in the know - anyone serious about skiing needs to go to Cham at least once. Just over one hour from Geneva, bluebird days are all but guaranteed at this enormous high-altitude resort. Come here to enjoy one of the longest snow-sure ski seasons in the French Alps, wild, untapped mountain runs, jaw-dropping glacial descents, and a fun, lively après scene. 

2. Flaine - 1hr 30mins

Bringing big family fun in spades, Flaine is a car-free parent paradise. Located just 90 minutes from Geneva airport, wake up with the 265km Grand Massif ski area on your hotel doorstep at one of France’s snowiest resorts. Bring the mini-skiers for ski-in/ski-out accommodations, gliding forest runs, winter sledging, and one of Grand Massif’s biggest terrain parks.

3. La Clusaz - 1 Hour

Located in the high altitudes of the snow-spun Aravis mountains 50km from Geneva, La Clusaz does big mountain skiing by the bucketful. This chic, sophisticated resort pulls you away from the hustle and bustle. Get lost in cruisy green and blue forest runs, challenging blacks, a renowned snow park, and off-piste bowls made for winter daredevils.

4. Morzine - 1hr 15mins

A great pick for large groups, Morzine is home to one of France’s largest, most accessible ski areas. A quick bus transfer from Geneva drops you straight into the action, with a wide variety of runs, excellent ski schools, and access to the high-altitude Avoriaz for snowy bluebird days. In the evening, embrace the vibrant après scene clinking glasses at iconic clubs and late-night bars.

5. Les Houches - 1 Hour

A snowball’s throw from Chamonix, Les Houches offers a quieter alternative ideal for families and beginners. Offering skiing close to Geneva, this pretty pint-size alpine village is ideal for family ski weekends, with heaps of runs for all levels. Come at Christmas to explore a winter wonderland of festive markets and twinkling fairy lights washed down with a mug of cocoa.

6. Courmayeur - 1hr 30mins

Oozing Italian charm and spirit, the high-altitude resort of Courmayeur is ideal for chilled-out fun, bluebird days, and plenty of good times. Just a 90min bus ride from Geneva, the small 42km ski area is packed with open bowls, tree-lined runs, and perfectly groomed reds. Away from the slopes, experience ‘La Dolce Vita’ sipping cocktails alongside the Italian rich and famous.

7. Morillon - 1 Hour

Seeking a quiet slice of the mountain to call your own? One of the closest resorts to Geneva, the alpine village of Morillon is a welcome haven for beginners. Explore enchanting wooden chalets and snow-dusted forests before descending the 200km of linked pistes in the enormous Grand Massif ski area. For the brave and bold, take on snowshoeing, paragliding, and winter canyoning.

8. Les Carroz - 1 Hour

Big kids and little kids are spoiled for choice in the classic French resort of Les Carroz. Just an hour from Geneva, Les Carroz delivers big smiles by the dozen, with laidback greens, tree-lined blues, and plenty of off-piste action. Altitudes of 2500m mean plenty of white stuff, with the nearby peaks of Mont Blanc offering majestic views and fresh flurries all the way to April.

9. Le Grand-Bornand - 1 Hour

Ideal for those just getting started, Le Grand-Bornand offers the perfect beginner pistes just a snowball’s throw from Geneva. Send kids off for ski lessons at Plateau du Rosay, practice tricks on the Big Air Bag at Grand-Bo snow park, or hit the backcountry for awe-inspiring vistas. After the slopes, dive into mountains of melted Reblochon with local tartiflette and gooey fondue.

10. Megeve - 1hr 15mins

Looking for something a tad more boujee? Just one hour from Geneva, Megève offers magical ski weekends amid oh-so-chic surroundings. Families and newbies can take to the slopes with relaxed greens and cruisy blues. Home to 120km of intermediate and beginner tree-lined runs, Les Gets is packed with rustic charm amid alpine surroundings. Just over one hour's transfer from Geneva, Les Gets is blessed with bluebird skies, buckets of snow, and mountain vistas. For those who love to be different, come here for cross-country skiing, free-riding zones, and adrenaline-fuelled winter sports.

13. Saint Gervais - 1 Hour

Home to some of the most scenic skiing in the Alps, Saint Gervais keeps seasoned skiers entertained with an incredible 445km of slopes. Just one hour from Geneva airport, skiers come here for stunning mountain vistas, plenty of cruisy corduroy and challenging runs off the top of Mt. Joly. Check calendars for their winter sports festivals and events, featuring ski touring and biathlon.

14. Châtel - 1hr 30mins

Nestled at the heart of the French-Swiss border is the captivating Savoyarde resort of Châtel. An unspoiled mountain paradise, Châtel is ideal for romantic getaways and weekend ski trips, with short transfers and a lively après scene. Newbies can take to the sunny village slopes while the daredevils explore the vast web of runs in Portes du Soleil and the high altitudes of Avoriaz.

15. Vallorcine - 1hr 30mins

Hidden away in the Chamonix Valley is the charming, unspoiled village of Vallorcine. The playground of intermediate and advanced skiers, this remote refuge delivers pristine mountain views, snow-sure days, and relaxed après just 90 minutes from Geneva. 16. Combloux - 1 Hour

Get a taste of rural Alpine France just one hour from Geneva at Combloux. Full of traditional charm, Combloux is ideal for families and beginners, with kid-friendly pistes and over 100 tree-lined slopes. We recommend coming in December to explore the incredible Christmas markets selling traditional crafts, steaming mugs of mulled wine, and buttery fresh crêpes.

17. Argentiere - 1hr 30mins

At the foot of mighty Mont Blanc sits Argentiere, Chamonix’s smaller, quieter neighbour. Home to one of the Alps’ longest ski seasons, Argentiere promises cheap ski weekends in the late season, with access to the same slopes and big mountain terrain as Chamonix. Although a bit gnarly for beginners, advanced groups and boarders should feel right at home among Argentiere’s lofty peaks.

18. Leysin - 1hr 25mins

Perfect for families seeking skiing in Switzerland close to Geneva airport, Leysin is a sugar-sweet playground of slopes, pistes, and tobogganing made for mini-skiers. With train links straight from Geneva airport, come here to explore over 100km of slopes wide enough for beginners and snowboarders while freestyle fanatics can take on the infamous Vaud Alps half-pipe.

19. Champery - 1hr 25mins

Don't let Champery's small, quiet demeanour fool you. With dizzying high altitudes, modern ski lift facilities, and snow-laden pistes, Champery just so happens to have some of the best skiing and snowboarding in the Swiss-French Alps. And if that wasn't enough, train links direct from the airport make Champrey ideal for skiing holidays from Geneva.

20. Manigod - 1hr 15mins

Just a hop, skip, and a jump from Geneva, families and beginners are spoiled with a playground of blues and greens.
